Dr. Karine Schomer, is a change management, organizational development, cross-cultural management and corporate training specialist with a higher education background. She has had ten years in executive leadership and senior management, and international experience in both India and Europe . She has facilitated major organizational change and renewal efforts, including strategy development, systems redesign, culture change, and management development, in both private industry and higher education.
Her consulting specialties include leadership strategy, organizational culture and design, strategic planning, organizational development, human resource strategy, change management, team development, process re-engineering, and training needs assessment. She is a skilled facilitator of meetings, retreats and other group processes, and an effective coach to executives and senior managers.
Experienced in the design and delivery of corporate training, Dr. Schomer'straining expertise is in leadership development, management skills, teamwork and workplace communication, including in contexts where there are divergent cultural styles. She gives briefings and leads workshops dealing with cultural awareness as a business effectiveness skill, differences in business and workplace cultures, managing in the global workplace, intercultural communication, and how to establish credibility, motivate, negotiate, sell and build teams across cultures, particularly in the offshore outsourcing context.
Dr. Schomer has special cross-cultural expertise relating to the Indian subcontinent, and leads the CMCT India Practice. She is the author of a number of books on India, writes articleson global management issues, and is a frequent speaker on cross-cultural and organizational change issues relating to the India-U.S. business nexus. Her column "Culture Matters" appears in Sourcingmagand other online publications.
Dr. Schomer's background includes ten years on the faculty of the University of California at Berkeley. She has been a Dean at Golden Gate University, San Francisco, where she developed a successful Organizational Psychology program. She also served as Provost and Chief Operating Officer of the California Institute of Integral Studies, San Francisco, where she oversaw programs in Organizational Development, Applied Psychology, and Transformative Learning. She holds an undergraduate degree from Oberlin College, and a PhD in South Asian Studies from the University of Chicago. She has lived in India for 8 years and in France for 12 years, and is fluent in both Hindi and French.
In 1997, Dr. Schomer founded Change Management Consulting & Training, LLC, headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area, with the mission of providing integrated solutions to organizational change. As President of CMCT, Dr. Schomer develops and coordinates team projects for change, drawing on the expertise and backgrounds of CMCT's affiliate consultants and strategic partners.
