Ravi Menon is an entrepreneurial international market development executive with over 15 years of extensive and pragmatic business experience in sales management and building strategic partner alliance. He presently serves as a consultant for startups considering entry into clean technology, energy storage, or energy optimization. During his career Mr. Menon has introduced disruptive technologies like Dynamic Positioning Systems and Three Axis Control Systems for offshore oil and gas exploration and drilling; first microprocessor based programmable controller for continuous process industry in the Indian sub-continent; first explosion-proof electronic flow metering controllers; first hydrogen-based fuel cells for telecom backup in the Middle East; and most recently the first high-temperature fuel cell for co-generation to a gas utility in Korea.

Mr. Menon was the Director of Market Development at Plug Power, one of the leading manufacturers of fuel cells for backup power, co-generation, and motive power, where he successfully enabled market adoption for fuel cells in telecom, utility, and UPS applications.

Before joining Plug Power, Mr. Menon was the Western Regional Manager at EnerSys, Inc., a world leader in battery technology. At Invensys’ Hawker Battery Group, he set up operations in the San Francisco Bay Area and secured new business by providing engineered systems solutions in markets West of the Mississippi, leveraging battery product lines from 23 manufacturing facilities worldwide. He was recognized for running the leanest operation in the Invensys group of companies. Mr. Menon consistently doubled year-on-year sales of stationary batteries and aircraft batteries for the North American operations of leading German battery manufacturer Varta, based in Canada which would later be acquired by BTR plc – now known as Invensys.

Prior to joining Varta, Mr. Menon founded Kaizen Systems soon after relocating from the United Arab Emirates to Canada as a new immigrant, providing world-class instrumentation and control systems integration services to customers in North America, Middle East and Asia, drawing upon his past experience in managing process control systems, climate controls and marine systems for Honeywell India.

Mr. Menon’s entrepreneurial aptitude was first put to test much earlier in his career when he established Gulf International Business Group – Dubai, one of the leading companies in flow metering and petroleum terminal automation in the region, sponsored by one of the most respected individuals in the U.A.E.
Mr. Menon holds a BE in Electrical Engineering from College of Engineering, Poona University and certificates in Business Strategy and Nanotechnology from Stanford University. He is an active member of TiE Silicon Valley, CLOSE, IEEE and an interest group focused on green technologies such as solar photovoltaic, wind turbines, geothermal energy and green buildings to name a few.
