Ronald Hutchinson (Deceased) was Senior Vice President of Product Development for Harley-Davidson Motor Company. In this role, Hutchinson was responsible for O.E. Motorcycle Engineering, including Platform Teams and Centers of Expertise; Materials Management; Logistics and Transportation;  and the Parts, Accessories, Custom Vehicle and Trike Operations. In addition to P&L responsibility for the $1.3 B PACT organization, he had accountability for the product design and development capabilities of that organization.

Hutchinson worked for Harley-Davidson more than 30 years. From 1975-1985, he held a series of engineering, manufacturing and quality positions. After a four-year period during which he was a Principal and Vice President of KW Tunnell, Hutchinson returned to Harley-Davidson as Vice President of Total Quality in 1989. He has subsequently held a number of senior leadership positions including Vice President of Customer Service; Vice President of Parts & Accessories; Vice President and Coach; and Senior Vice President of Product Development.

Hutchinson currently serves as Board Chairman for Wiscraft, Inc., a private, non-profit manufacturing company which offers employment to visually impaired people.  He also is retired from advisory boards at Texas A&M and Arizona State University.

Since leaving Harley-Davidson, he is an established consultant providing clients Business Development and New Product Development  advisory & support.  Hutchinson is also creating a new venture into development and marketing of products for the motorcycle aftermarket.

Hutchinson earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology from Purdue University and an MBA from the University of Detroit. He has also taken advanced programs at the University of Tennessee, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Michigan. Hutchinson is an Air Transport Pilot and an avid motorcycle enthusiast - Among his collection of Harley-Davidson motorcycles, his favorite is his 2009 Screamin’ Eagle Ultra – his latest bike from Custom Vehicle Operations.

Prior professional experience also includes a variety of Engineering positions at Cummins Engine Company and Ford, Heavy Truck Division.

1979 – Established Advanced Manufacturing Engineering at York Division
1982 – Led the Softail ‘skunkworks’ – 8 month delivery of a new platform
1984 – Formulated and led the H-D Quality initiative
1990 – Formed the Customer Service and Quality organization
1991 -  Led "Systems Thinking" change initiative
1992 – Established and led Harley-Davidson University
1994 – Added Parts to Service and Quality – a $50mm business
1996 – Added Accessories to Parts and Service – led the SBU, created the: Lead where we play, “Big Book,” First to Market and launch when ready strategies.
1999 – Launch the Super Premium Custom Vehicle Operations product line
2000 – P&A/CVO reaches $500 M in revenue
2001 – Named to the Harley-Davidson Financial Services Board of Directors
2004 – Delivered first of four NHRA championships
2005 – P&A/CVO hits $1 billion revenue.  Formed the ‘Wrecking Crew’ for Flat Track Racing and won first of three consecutive championships
2006 – Introduce the fourth line of CVO and sold 500 + Destroyers – a race ready V-Rod
2007 – Established the New Business Development Function
2008 – Introduced the Tri-Glide Trike the first H-D trike in 35 years
